Become the Owner
When providing shelter for pets, we endow them with human needs, making their houses cater to human aesthetics and lifestyle. But is this really reasonable for animals? Must our space be human-centered? This project's users are the most common household pets——cats, to imagine a non-anthropocentric architecture, and to reflect on how to deal with the relationship between humans, animals, and the environment.
Users' Habits
Cats' daily schedule is different from humans'. They like to be awake during the night while humans work during the day.
Users' needs
Cats have small size but they need large space to play around. They need even more space to move than humans do
How to do it?
Most commonly seen cat houses are small and placed in the corner of human houses. They adapted to the human environment in terms of their materials and forms and did not take into account the cats’ nocturnal habits and strong jumping ability either. So, I made a spatial converse between cats' space and human space, making human space be enclosed by cats’. As if humans become the observed pets kept by cats.
Formation Process
Extract curves from nature elements and and put them in random combinations. Then a 7x7 grid is used to represent the stylized life of human beings. Each grid is 4mx4m. The living space of human beings is compressed to the minimum and then ten squares are randomly selected as the human living box.
The floor plan
Based on the curve combination above, concretized floor plans into more details.
Yeah! Meow!
Reflection
Will people eventually move out of their houses and live in the open air with cats?
